The sermon follows the psalmist from protest and mourning to worship and renewed hope. Situations can feel so unjust or prolonged that people conclude God is helpless, absent, or has rejected them. Psalm 43 gives permission to speak honestly, because refuge under God's wings means drawing close enough to be fully vulnerable. Concealing anger, fear, or disappointment gives lies room to grow, while honest prayer keeps the conversation with God open. His answer is not always the immediate end of the storm; he sends his light and truth to lead his people through it. Jesus is that light, and the Holy Spirit is the helper who preserves what is eternal even amid suffering. The psalmist then chooses praise—not gratitude for evil itself, but gratitude that God remains present through it. Hope is restored as lies are confessed, truth is declared, testimonies of God's victories are remembered, and the soul is directed again toward Jesus, our salvation.
